SPANISH 1
This is an introductory Spanish course designed for students with little to no prior exposure to the language. The class focuses on developing basic communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as introducing the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. By the end of the year, students should be able to engage in brief conversations on familiar topics, such as family, friends, school, food, and daily activities, use and respond to appropriate greetings, farewells, and expressions of courtesy, understand and use the Spanish alphabet, numbers, and how to tell time and state dates.
SPANISH 2
This class is a continuation of Spanish 1, designed to build upon the foundational language skills students have already developed. The course emphasizes more complex communication in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through interactive activities..A primary focus is introducing and mastering the use of different verb tenses to discuss events in the past, present, and future. Students will also deepen their understanding of grammar and expand their vocabulary to discuss more varied topics. By the end of the year, students should be able to use and identify multiple tenses, understand more complex speech, and ngage in more detailed conversations.
 
LANGUAGE & CULTURE (DUAL LANGUAGE)
This Spanish dual language and culture course is designed for middle school students, focusing on advancing their proficiency in Spanish while also deepening their academic content knowledge and cultural understanding. This course moves beyond basic conversational skills to focus on the three pillars of dual language education: bilingualism and biliteracy, grade-level academic achievement in Spanish, and sociocultural competence. Instruction promotes thinking, reading, and writing in the language. By the end of the year, students should be able to read and write proficiently in Spanish, transferring content knowledge and literacy skills between Spanish and English, understand and analyze literary texts from Spanish-speaking authors, representing various regions like Spain, Central America, and South America, and show a deep understanding and appreciation for different cultures, traditions, and perspectives within the Spanish-speaking world.
