General Art.
The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In General Art, students expand their knowledge of the visual arts while making meaningful connections between the arts and their own experiences through a series of instructional units that combine observing and creating in arts media; reading, writing and speaking about, and reflecting upon the arts. Arts activities focus on applying knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design to units on drawing, painting, lettering, perspective, sculpture, and the world crafts.
Design Craft
The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Design Crafts, students further their aesthetic appreciation and knowledge of the diverse forms and media used to solve the utilitarian needs of all societies, past and present. The student will explore three-dimensional processes with various materials using traditional and nontraditional constructive techniques. Instructional topics support learning in other content areas and encourage lifelong learning.
Cartooning and Animation
The purpose of this course is to provide a balanced visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts. In Cartooning and Animation, students learn about the history and techniques of illustration, cartooning and animation in conjunction with learning about heir aesthetic properties. The course includes freehand drawing and rendering, layout, and the use of basic drawing tools and multimedia for the reproduction of images. Students will study uses for thematic elements, character development, and visual effects incorporated into political and social cartoon in historical and contemporary times. Careers in cartooning and animation will be discussed.
