Music

Beginning Winds


Beginning Winds is designed for students who want to learn a band instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba or percussion) and have no previous experience on that instrument.  The fundamental skills of playing an instrument using proper posture, position, tone, and technique will be taught. Students will develop critical listening skills related to pitch, tone, pulse, and rhythm. Music literacy skills will be taught as well.  By the end of the year, students will be able to read and perform 3 major scales and grade level 1 music literature. Participation requires attendance at performances outside of the school day.


Beginning Strings


Beginning Strings is designed for students who want to learn a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass) and have no previous experience on that instrument.  The fundamental skills of playing an instrument using proper posture, position, tone, and technique will be taught. Students will develop critical listening skills related to pitch, tone, pulse, and rhythm. Music literacy skills will be taught as well.  By the end of the year, students will be able to read and perform 3 major scales and grade level 1 music literature. Participation requires attendance at performances outside of the school day.


Advanced Orchestra


The Advanced Orchestra is designed to to be a continuation of previous instruction and requires an audition or director approval to be enrolled. Students will refine instrument specific skills and gain experience performing in a large ensemble setting. Principles of music theory, music history, and performance will be presented.  By the end of the year, students will be able to read and perform several major scales in more that 1 octave as well as grade 2-3 level music literature.  Participation requires attendance outside of the school day.


Advanced Band


The Advanced Band is designed to to be a continuation of previous instruction and requires an audition or director approval to be enrolled. Students will refine instrument specific skills and gain experience performing in a large ensemble setting. Choir
 
The choir program provides an opportunity for students to create music using the voice as a primary instrument. Fundamental techniques such as vocal production, posture, tone, music literacy will be taught via unison singing. By the end of the year, students will be able to perform beginner to intermediate music literature. Participation is required inside and outside the classroom and at performances outside the school day.
 
Guitar
 
The guitar program provides an opportunity for students to create music using the guitar as an artistic medium. Fundamental techniques such as tone, posture, music literacy, and performance etiquette will be taught via ensemble rehearsal and performance. By the end of the year, students will be able to perform beginner to intermediate music literature. Participation is required inside and outside the classroom setting and at performances outside the school day.
